Steintal

Franken, Germany

Located in Klingenberg am Main, between Odenwald and Spessart, the former winery of the city of Klingenberg (today Weingut Steintal) stands for sustainable and organic viticulture in harmony with nature. In the listed terrace steep locations, where already in the 13th century the first vines were set. Our main focus is on Pinot Noir, growing 90% Pinot Noir on a total of 11ha in the three municipalities of Klingenberg, Großheubach and Bürgstadt.

“It was one of the great success stories of German Pinot Noir when the young talent Benedikt Baltes took over the winery of the city of Klingenberg am Main and immediately caused a huge sensation with his first bottlings. The style was extremely unusual for Germany: released early, almost a bit extremist, correspondingly low in alcohol, pushing the soil expression, cool, racy and strongly reductive in youth. Baltes has sinced moved to the Ahr and the winery renamed Steintal, however Baltes has remained with the company as an oenological consultant and the rest of the team is now continuing Steintal unchanged in the same style.”
