Wachau
The Wachau wine region is located in the Danube River valley in Austria, between the towns of Melk and Krems. It is one of the most prestigious wine regions in Austria and is known for its production of high-quality white wines, particularly Grüner Veltliner and Riesling.
The Wachau region is characterized by steep terraced vineyards that overlook the Danube River. The vineyards are planted on a variety of soils, including primary rock, gneiss, and mica schist, which give the wines a unique minerality and depth of flavor. The climate in the region is continental, with warm summers and cold winters.
